01Street Scene Racer for Charlotte Car Club
I made Street Scene Racer for Charlotte Car Club, a browser racing game with a new Charlotte track every day. A game nobody has heard of is a hard sell on its own, so I borrowed attention that already existed.
- the problem
- A brand new game with no audience, on feeds where people scroll right past ads for games.
- what I did
- I clipped content from streamers that car people already watch and paired it with real laps from the game. The streamer holds the top of the frame, the race runs underneath, and the hook sits on the seam for the first few seconds.
- what happened
- The clips pulled 1M views in one week.
The clips
Prove them wrong
“He got the Hellcat to prove them wrong”
An underdog line does the work. I cut straight to the reason he bought it so the story pays off before the lap ends.
Yaris to Ferrari
“Went for a Yaris, left with a 1,000 HP Ferrari”
The gap between the two cars is the hook. Captions run word by word so it holds with the sound off.
Meet Thanos
“Meet Thanos, the purple Urus”
A car with a name is a character. I open on him talking to camera, then hand off to the race.
Streamer footage in the top half belongs to its original creators. The gameplay is mine.
02Process
- 01
Find the moment
I watch the raw footage for the one line someone would repeat to a friend.
- 02
Cut for the phone
9:16 first. I trim the dead air and put the payoff early.
- 03
Hook and caption
The hook goes on screen in the first seconds and captions carry it with the sound off.
- 04
Pair it and post it
The clip goes on top, the game runs underneath, and each one ships with its own hook.
